He paid his bill, then stepped outside to watch Carla’s retreat. In those jeans of hers – one of the hot luxury brands, maybe True Religion – her ass looked as firm and fine as it had been when she was a twenty-year-old model. He also noticed the short guy following her who had preceded him out the door, but he looked harmless enough. Intrigued by Carla Dunstead and the reasons why she might have come to Alaska, Cal followed at some distance. When he saw her disappear into The Puffin, one of Anchorage’s boutique hotels, he saw that the short guy walked on by without a backward glance. Maybe he’d been wrong about the guy following her.
